Project of the Year, Industry Awards Presented at 2019 PDCA Annual Conference
The PDCA Store opens as official retailer of Association thought leadership, merchandise


Orlando, FL (July 19, 2019): The Pile Driving Contractors Association (PDCA) member companies who submitted the winning entries in the annual Project of the Year competition are considering display options for the unique trophies they have won; it is a hand-crafted, 14 inch, chromed piece of steel H-pile mounted on a stained, oak base. Each trophy features an engraved plaque denoting the company and winning project names. Companies submitted entries in five separate categories and a special committee of PDCA judges selected the winners. The winning entries for 2019 were recognized during an awards luncheon at the PDCA 22nd Annual Conference held July 9th-12th at the Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World. The winning entries include:

The forthcoming Edition 4 of PileDriver Magazine will feature detailed articles on all 2019 winning projects. Due to the occurrence of IFCEE in 2018, Project of the Year winners from that year were also recognized during the PDCA awards luncheon. Those companies are:

In addition to the Project of the Year awards, the PDCA 22nd Annual Conference also recognized members who have displayed notable industry leadership. Those distinguished members follow:

  • Committee Chair of the Year: Pollyanna Cunningham of International Construction Equipment

  • Professional Engineer's Service Award: Scott Webster of GRL Engineers, Inc.
  • Presidential Award for Distinguished Service: Stevan Hall, retired Executive Director of PDCA
The Annual Conference programming included three keynote presentations focusing on different aspects of the pile driving industry. The presenters and the subjects they addressed included:
  • Marty Fiorentino, President of The Fiorentino Group presented 'Legislation and Advocacy in Pile Driving Industry: Are you at the table or on the menu?'
  • Billy Camp, VP of S&ME, Inc. presented 'A Geotechnical Practitioner's Case for a Foundation Design-Construction Continuum'
  • Richard Hartman, Owner and Principal Engineer, Hartman Engineering presented 'Sheet Piling - Past, Present, and Future'
Other programming offered during the three-day event included several hours of accredited courses for pile driving and geotechnical engineering engineering practitioners to learn about the latest issues and trends in the deep foundations industry. A preconference short course, Pile Driving Inspections, was made available to attendees and other interested parties by faculty members Mohamad Hussein, P.E., GRL Engineers, Inc. and Gerry McShane, Service Steel Warehouse. There was a Companions Program available to the significant others of PDCA members. And more than 40 attendees participated in the annual golf outing. See the Conference video. Introducing the PDCA Store

Through ongoing efforts to increase Association visibility in the construction marketplace, the PDCA has established The PDCA Store which makes clothing items, collectables and proprietary thought leadership resources available for purchase. The PDCA Store, the official retailer of Association merchandise, occupied a physical space at the 22nd Annual Conference and is available year-round at www.PileDrivers.com.

All Conference attendees were treated to a PDCA 2019 commemorative, stainless steel and leather coaster, a $20 value. Additional coasters to complete a set are still available. Other items bearing the PDCA brand that are for sale online include six different t-shirts, a quarter-zip pull-over, a camo hat, an engraved steel cup, an athletic bag, an umbrella, a flashlight and various industry guides with proprietary and best-practices information developed by and for industry professionals.
