Florida PDCA Members, Organization leaders mingle in Orlando

A popular program of PDCA continues in 2024. The organization's delivery of FREE regional receptions to various areas of the U.S. where there is a concentration of pile drivers, the affiliated civil engineers, the supporting material suppliers, and the deep foundations equipment manufacturers began with Libations With Leadership, a social event in Orlando, FL on January 10th. This gathering commingled Florida PDCA members, other area industry stakeholders, past presidents of the organization and the current PDCA Board of Directors, which was slated to begin annual strategic planning in that city the next day. The event attracted a few dozen attendees who enjoyed hors d'oeuvres, an open bar, and ample networking time.

The PDCA regional reception program is open to sponsors at various levels, and thanks to several member companies, the Libations With Leadership event earned support from valued benefactors. Junttan was a Drive 'Em Deep sponsor, Triad Metals made available free parking at the Orlando Rosen Centre Hotel, and MT Kaye Steel and ASAP Group elected to also 'Pitch In.'

For a portion of the event, PDCA Executive Director Frank Peters gave a short program to introduce the past presidents and Board members who attended. He also explained that is important for areas with a concentrated population in the pile driving industry, to consider organizing behind efforts to develop a local PDCA Chapter. Libations With Leadership was the fourth time since 2019 that PDCA brought a regional reception to Florida, with earlier events taking place in Jacksonville, St. Augustine, and Miami. Peters also took the opportunity to award a couple attendees with PDCA Bucks, or $50 coupons good for purchase of PDCA merchandise, educational resources, or event registrations.

Libations With Leadership took place for two hours, and was a unique opportunity for PDCA members, prospective members, and the volunteer officers and Board members to connect, socialize, 'talk shop,' and otherwise celebrate that A Driven Pile...Is a Tested Pile.

Civil Engineering students at The Citadel visit a South Carolina jobsite

PDCA Member Heron Wolf provides construction and engineering staffing services for all levels of industry need. With the new year, the firm has launched a new scholarship program, designed to assist a student pursuing an undergraduate degree in civil engineering. If you know of, or are a student in this area of study, keep reading. Here is the announcement and application link from Heron Wolf:

Heron Wolf is committed to our industry, not only in words but also through action. It's our pleasure to introduce the Heron Wolf Civil & Infrastructure Scholarship  a dedication to advancing the sector.

Civil engineering is instrumental in societal progress, designing and constructing critical infrastructure. Nevertheless, the substantial cost of education in this field can be a barrier for many aspiring civil engineers. To foster innovation, sustainability, and resilience in our built environment, it is imperative to provide support to these students.

The Heron Wolf Civil Infrastructure & Scholarship aims to assist undergraduate students pursuing a degree in civil engineering. We are seeking applicants who exhibit a sincere passion for civil engineering and its potential to generate positive societal impact. An exceptional academic record is highly regarded. Additionally, we value innovative thinkers with strong problem-solving capabilities. Active participation in extracurricular activities or projects linked to the field is considered advantageous.

Registration OPEN for Jan. 19th Oyster Roast, a FREE Family Event in South Carolina

Attendees of the 2023 Oyster Roast included (L-R) Andy West from Triad Metals, Jenny Bass from Essve Tech, and PDCA Executive Director Frank Peters

An annual tradition for the PDCA South Carolina Chapter, the widely attended Oyster Roast is a highlight of the pile driving industry each January. The 18th consecutive event happens on January 19th, from 6-9 PM EST at Palmetto Pile Driving, Inc. at 1875 Pittsburgh Avenue in historic Charleston. In addition to FREE oysters prepared on-site, attendees are also offered pulled pork, hot dogs, chili, s'mores, and beverages thanks to a host of generous sponsors (see below). The event is exclusively networking and social time where friends, colleagues, customers, and families are encouraged to meander throughout the outdoor space where they'll find a large bonfire, shuckin' tables, or other expanse of fresh air, all beneath the ambient lighting of strung bulbs - seemingly a requirement in the South Carolina Lowcountry. Those who prefer inside accommodations in January are welcome in the shop space filled with table seating, sponsor swag, and 'unique' decor, as only a piling installer/producer might offer. The event is made possible by the following sponsors:

Koppers, Terracon, Essve Tech, Meever USA, Carter Lumber, ESP Associates, United Rentals, NUCOR Skyline, Pile Drivers, Inc., Soil Consultants, Mammoth Carbon, Russell Marine, LLC, Wire Products, Inc., Van-Smith Concrete, Beacon Transporation, Palmetto Pile Driving, Inc., AMERICAN SpiralWeld Pipe, SJ Hamill Construction Corp., Consolidated Pipe and Supply, Equipment Corporation of America (ECA), International Construction Equipment (ICE)
