A remarkable 56 year career in pile driving comes to close on November 1, 2025. Longtime PDCA Contractor Member Wayne Waters contacted the organization in October to notify staff that he is closing EWS Construction Consulting Corporation, but intends to transition his membership in PDCA to Retired Member. He became a consultant in 2019 after he sold Ed Waters & Sons Contracting, the St. Augustine, FL-based driven pile installation company where he had worked since 1969.

"You know, we did so many projects around Jacksonville, FL that when I drive members of my family by buildings and bridges in the city, I can often tell them the number of piles underneath them, and the size of each of them," noted Waters. "The kids will look at me and say, Grandpa, you don't even remember what you had for breakfast yesterday, how can I believe what you're telling me? But to succeed in this business, you've got to eat sleep and breathe it. And I've done that for 56 years. Now, it's time focus on other areas of my life."

Back in 1995, Wayne's career took an unexpected turn when his friend and fellow pile driver Woody Ford from Ford Pile Foundations in Virginia Beach, VA convinced him to help a small group that was formalizing an industry organization to exclusively serve pile driving professionals around the country. Wayne joined with the group which, months later, incorporated PDCA, now in it's 30th year. He founding Board of Directors member and helped guide the organization in its infancy. In 2004, he served a term as PDCA president. Wayne was part of the leadership team that conceived PDCA initiatives that are like the Project of the Year Awards, PileDriver magazine, an Annual Conference, all important, thriving programs to this day.

Wayne has five adult children and nine grandkids (ages 10-19) living across three states, and he wants to be part of their lives. "I realized that my work gets in the way doing what I really want to do, which is spend time with my family that is growing up."

PDCA congratulates Wayne on a long and impactful career!

On October 23rd, the PDCA Texas Chapter coordinated another Member Facility Tour, an opportunity to bring interested parties together and learn about the products and services that another member provides. This time, PILECO, Inc. opened up the doors to it's new manufacturing and operations center in Conroe, TX and gave attendees a presentation about building and maintaining pile hammers.

We provide you this on-location report from Montgomery County, Texas:

Pileco recently welcomed guests for an impressive tour of their state-of-the-art facility in Conroe, Texas, an event proudly sponsored by the Texas Chapter of PDCA. Attendees were guided by Pileco's Operations Manager, Bruce Bradley, who provided an in-depth look at how the company maintains its equipment throughout its entire lifecycle.

The tour also showcased Pileco's extensive inventory of leads, guiding systems, and an array of driving attachments--virtually every tool imaginable for the job. Their parts department stood out as particularly remarkable, rivaling the best in the industry.

What truly set the experience apart was the facility's exceptional cleanliness and organization, reflecting the professionalism and dedication of Pileco's first-class team and the high standards they uphold in their operations.

Thanks to Chapter President Condon Verble, Chapter Planning Committee Director Matthew Knight, and Chapter Coordinator Shiri Foster for providing this pictorial and narrative event coverage.
