At its third annual golf tournament, the PDCA Texas Chapter formally recognized four students from the Houston region as winners of its new scholarship. One of the four winners, Taylor Darling, attended the golf event at Eagle Point Golf & Country Club in Mont Belviue on Sept. 23rd, while her co-recipients were unavailable because they were away at school, beginning their first collegiate semester outside of the area. Those students are pictured below:

The PDCA Texas Chapter issued the following announcement in September, recognizing the scholarship awardees:

We are proud to announce that this year we are awarding four scholarships, with each student receiving $2,500--a total of $10,000 invested in the future of our industry. This achievement would not have been possible without the incredible support of our chapter members and sponsors at the Scholarship Fundraising Golf Tournament.

This year's applicants were truly inspiring. We received seven outstanding applications from hardworking, dedicated students who represent the future of our industry. While we wish we could recognize every applicant, our committee selected four exceptional recipients whose accomplishments and dedication stood out.

To ensure a fair and unbiased process, all personal and company names were removed from the applications. The review committee evaluated each submission using a standardized scorecard system, with scoring conducted on the day of review. This process guaranteed selections were made with integrity and fairness.

We are excited to share that our scholarship winners will be joining us at the Golf Tournament on September 23rd! They will assist at the registration table and be celebrated during the awards lunch when they receive their scholarships. If you'll be attending, be sure to say hello and help us cheer them on!

Congratulations to our 2025 Scholarship Recipients:

  • Samuel Puente  Sponsored by Condon Verble with McCarthy Building Companies, Inc.
  • Rachel Glynn  Sponsored by Kyle Yarbrough with CPS Houston
  • Taylor Darling  Sponsored by Shiri Foster with Lodge Lumber Co.
  • Stanley Marczak  Sponsored by Deibys Ereu with Weeks Marine

Thank you again to all who support our scholarship program and invest in the next generation of industry leaders!

On Wednesday, June 18, 2025, members and guests of the PDCA Texas Chapter engaged in an outing that included an informational visit and tour at a large equipment supplier in Baytown, TX, followed by a Happy Hour event in nearby Mont Belvieu.

Bottom Line Equipment hosted nearly 55 contractors, manufacturers, suppliers and other civil construction professionals at their large Baytown, TX facility where they rent and sell heavy construction equipment and specialty attachments. Company leadership was on hand, as well as local staff who took questions and participated in tours of the expansive grounds.

PDCA Texas Chapter President Condon Verble (pictured) opened the program, thanking the attending Chapter members and encouraging the non-members to consider joining. Pres. Verble also thanked the event sponsors which included MKT Manufacturing, Inc., Vacuworx and Peryn Heavy Haul. Finally, he invited all attendees to spread the word to interns and students in higher education to apply for the PDCA Texas Chapter Scholarship; application materials are due by August 1st.

Providing the welcome message from major sponsor and host Bottom Line Equipment was Scott Phillips, the Region 2 Market Leader. He thanked company founder and owner Kurt Degueyter for opening up the Baytown facility for the event, and introduced his leadership team who attended from some of the company's 11 other offices. Scott impressed upon the attendees that Bottom Line Equipment only offers 'quality, name-brand, and hard-to-find specialty equipment' and proudly serves all of Texas and Louisiana; they also serve outside of the region on a case-by-case basis.

Attendees were then released to network within the shop, enjoy the unique appetizers from Refined Cajun & BBQ Caterers, and tour the grounds. Gerardo Acosta Rios provided the walking tour and took questions about various aspects of the company. Fun fact we learned: Bottom Line Equipment brands in the colors red and black, and the rock throughout parking lot and equipment grounds is also red and black! This event was coordinated by Bottom Line's Territory Account Representative Samara Granger and PDCA Texas Chapter Administrator Shiri Foster.

When the visit to Bottom Line Equipment concluded, all attendees were invited to a Happy Hour, sponsored by Paco Equipment, in nearby Mont Belviue. There, several people gathered for additional refreshments and networking at The Barn - Whiskey Bar. Thanks to all those who attended either or both PDCA Texas Chapter events, see who was SPOTTED in the photos below:

PDCA Chapter Scholarships: Pacific Coast Due July 1, Texas Due Aug. 1

2025 Chapter Scholarships

High school and college students seeking financial assistance to offset high costs for post-secondary education may qualify to apply for scholarships from two PDCA Chapters. The PDCA Pacific Coast Chapter and the PDCA Texas Chapter each offer scholarship awards to students who are pursuing educational programs geared toward eventual careers in the construction industry. Such programs could be through universities, technical colleges or vocational schools and they must prepare students in curricula such as construction management, engineering, occupational safety, accounting or similar lines of study. Both scholarship programs are independently administered through the respective Chapters and some applicant rules and restrictions may be slightly different. Make sure you read through the scholarship materials from each Chapter, found in the links below. If you have, or know of a student from Texas or from the Western U.S. who is interested in an eventual career in the deep foundation construction industry, consider sharing the following scholarship opportunities from PDCA Chapters with them:
