GeoCongress 2026, held March 912 at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, delivered a memorable and impactful experience for the geotechnical community. As a proud cooperating organization with the ASCE Geo-Institute, PDCA joined industry leaders, researchers, and practitioners in celebrating 30 years of excellence in geotechnical engineering.

PDCA members were well represented throughout the event--as attendees, exhibitors, and sponsors. Notable supporters included GeoSyntec, Blue Iron Foundations & Shoring, Keller, and Gerhart Cole, which served as a Platinum sponsor and supported the prestigious Ralph B. Peck Lecture.

A standout contributor to the event's success was Ryan Maw, PE, GE, BC.GE, F. ASCE, Principal at Gerhart Cole and Co-Chair of the 2026 GeoCongress (pictured above). Maw played a pivotal role in shaping the conference--working closely with the organizing committee to develop technical sessions, coordinate outreach to sponsors and exhibitors, and help promote the program. His leadership also extended to preview events that reflected on the first GeoCongress held in Utah 30 years ago, along with discussions on landslides and regional geologic challenges.

The conference brought together a dynamic mix of professionals--from students to seasoned experts--who engaged in technical sessions, panel discussions, workshops, and short courses. Topics ranged from extraterrestrial geotechnics and earthquake engineering in the Mountain West to mining tailings, landslide analysis, and innovative (lightweight) geomaterials along with insightful panel led discussions. Of particular note, was the panel on working platforms led by industry leaders that included PDCA member Brian Garrett, PE and highlighted the importance of planning and design of platforms in order to safely operate cranes and other heavy equipment.

Beyond the sessions, attendees benefited from valuable networking opportunities and professional development, all set against the vibrant backdrop of Salt Lake City. GeoCongress 2026 successfully fostered collaboration, innovation, and knowledge-sharing across the industry.
