GeoCarolinas is a program of the GeoInstitute Carolinas Chapter of ASCE that takes place in Charlotte, every 18 months. As organizations with similar objectives, and many shared members, PDCA South Carolina is proud to support the GeoCarolinas Conference, which brings the deep foundations community together for impactful education and quality networking.

The organizing committee for GeoCarolinas includes several representatives of PDCA member companies, including Duane Bents, PE, from Morris-Shea Bridge Co., Billy Camp, PE, BC.GE, from Kiewit, Lilma Schimmel, PE, MSCE, from S&ME, and Thomas Wells, PE, DBIA from Terracon. Along the other members of the organizing committee, this group has grown GeoCarolinas into a premier learning event for the regional deep foundation community, since its inception in 2017.

The GeoCarolinas 2025 Conference featured 12 different sessions over two days; several session presenters were experts in their field who hail from PDCA member companies. Attendees heard talks by Aaron Mann of Terracon, Damian Siebert of Haley & Aldrich, Dr. Graham Elliott of Schnabel Engineering, Paul Axtell from Dan Brown & Associates, Mary Nodine from Morris-Shea Bridge Company, and PDCA Academic Employee member Dr. Anne Lemnitzer from University of California-Irvine.

Sponsors for the conference, who are also PDCA members, included Geo-Technology Associates (GTA)Terracon, S&ME, and Morris-Shea. The event featured an exhibit hall where nearly 40 different companies showcased their product and service lines. PDCA members who exhibited were GRL Engineers/Pile Dynamics, Inc.Keller, DuroTerra, and Morris-Shea. Partnering industry organizations PDCA-South Carolina Chapter, Geo-Institute, and Deep Foundations Institute also maintained a booth presence for the two-day conference.

Veteran attendees of GeoCarolinas conferences have amassed a nice collection of various-sized, YETI travel mugs, complete with the GeoCarolinas logo carved into the steel cup. It is a generous gift from the organizing committee which has become an enviable, tangible take-away for conference-goers. When organizer Bents promotes an upcoming conference through his social media, he cleverly alludes to the YETI gift, which is a familiar signal to prospective attendees. #IYKYK!
