In one of two PDCA-branded events taking place on the same evening, in opposite sides of the continental United States, dozens of professionals from the driven pile industry in and around Seattle, WA convened at that city's popular Fremont Brewing for a networking reception and program. The event was designed to raise awareness of the ongoing work of the Pile Driving Contractors Association to advocate and advance the use of the driven pile in deep foundation construction. (And in case you were wondering about the other event, the PDCA Florida Chapter hosted Networking Night, 3,074 miles to the southeast, in Orlando, FL).

The Seattle Social was the latest PDCA installment of the organization's regional networking reception series, an initiative launched by PDCA in late 2021, where it visits cities/regions which are home to a concentration of pile driving contractors, manufacturers and suppliers of industry equipment and materials, affiliated engineers, and others who serve the industry. These events are FREE to attend, thanks to sponsor support. The Seattle Social brought representatives of the various organizations from the industry who were treated to a variety of refreshments such as drinks exclusively crafted at Fremont Brewing, a hearty buffet of Greek-style appetizers from local caterer Pecado Bueno, a chance to win one of five prizes, not to mention a unique opportunity to engage in industry networking with attendees from throughout the northwestern U.S. region.

Following an extended period of attendee networking, PDCA Executive Director Frank Peters called attention to those gathered in the private event room at Fremont, to share more information about the function, structure and objectives that guide PDCA as the only industry association that exclusively represents the driven pile. In summary, he reported that the just-turned-30-year-old organization which is member-directed and member-supported, strives to advocate the driven pile as the premier method of deep foundation construction that should be used in all appropriate circumstances. To bolster Peters' comments, 2025 PDCA President Buck Darling, also in attendance from his Western New York home where he owns and operates pile driving contracting company H.F. Darling, Inc., explained the reasoning behind his decades of involvement in PDCA. He also briefed the audience on the first-of-its-kind pile driving vibrations study, an initiative that is underway through the support of the organization.

Once the formal program completed, Peters and Darling conducted a raffle for five prizes to be awarded to attendees. The first prize was a generous donation from APE-American Piledriving Equipment, and provided the winner with four tickets to the upcoming Seattle Mariners baseball game when they host the San Diego Padres on August 27th. Armias Haftu from Pacific Pile & Marine was the winner of the baseball ticket package.
